Please note - Grade 9 Orientation Night on April 1 has been postponed indefinitely.
RE: HIGH SCHOOL REGISTRATION 2020-21
During the next few months students in Grade Nine Health classes will be discussing such topics as the transition to high school, the credit system, diploma requirements, and course selection. Counselors from Strathmore High School will be speaking to Grade Nine students about these topics and answering questions about the demands of high school. The transition to high school is exciting and there are many choices and decisions that need to be made. There are many differences between junior and senior high that increase the demands and responsibilities on the students. It is essential that parents be aware of the impact of these factors so that they can assist their son or daughter throughout the process and throughout high school.
The purpose of this letter is to encourage you to attend two very important events hosted by Strathmore High School that are designed to assist your child and you in the registration process and with the orientation to high school. The first is the annual Parent/Student Orientation Night on Wednesday, April 1, 2020 from 7:00 to 9:00pm. The first 40 minutes will be in the format of a large group presentation in the gym, followed by our annual “Show and Shine.” Throughout the school there will be interactive displays, performances and many opportunities for hands-on activities that highlight the wonderful learning opportunities that exist at SHS.
At the Parent/Student Orientation Night we will present information on the following:
The second major event is the Registration Interview. During a 20 minute appointment, a Grade 9 student and their parents will meet with SHS counselors to discuss the student’s selection of courses and to try to finalize the student’s timetable for next year. Appointments will be available during the day on May 28, 29, and 30, and then June 1-3, 2020. Evening appointments will also be available. Please call the high school beginning May 5, 2020 to book an appointment.
It is extremely beneficial for parents to participate in both of these events. We strongly believe that your involvement is critical in your child making a successful transition to high school. Please circle these dates on your calendar and plan to attend. If you have any questions, please call our Student Services Department at 403-934-3135. We look forward to meeting you on Wednesday April 1st at 7:00pm.
