New Public Health Emergency Protocols
Dear Golden Hills Parents,
Many of you will have received an alert on your phone or have followed the press conference led by Premier Kenney and the Minister of Health this evening. As a result of the critical load facing our health care system, the province of Alberta has declared a State of Public Health Emergency and a number of new health protocols have been introduced across the province https://www.alberta.ca/covid-19-public-health-actions.aspx. Specific to children in schools including all Golden Hills Schools, effective tomorrow, Thursday, September 16th, all students in Grade 4-12 are required to wear a mask in school. While we are awaiting details for this mask use in classrooms, we do know the following:
- Masks will be mandatory in many areas of the school for all Grade 4 -12 students
- Sports and Extra-curricular activities will continue (without masks)
- School programming, activities and field trips will also continue
We are asking all parents to ensure their child has their mask with them for school tomorrow. For students without a mask, we will provide one at school.
We will be continuing with our other health measures currently in place in our schools and our Respiratory Illness Prevention Plan will be updated on all our websites. We appreciate how diligent parents have been at monitoring daily symptoms and keeping their children home when they are ill. We want to thank all our parents for their support and will update you with further details as we have them.
Sincerely,
Bevan Daverne
